Thanksgiving message for teachers — by Steve Hiles

The day before Thanksgiving always arrives with a deep breath, a half-finished stack of grading, and the sweet relief of knowing a well-earned break is just hours away. Before you unplug, here’s a message every teacher deserves to hear:

There is still so much to be thankful for — even in a classroom world that feels busier than ever.

Thankful for the Teacher Who Keeps Showing Up

You are the heart of your classroom. Even on the days when the copier jams, the lesson flops, or your energy feels spent, you show up with purpose. That consistency changes lives in ways students will remember long after they’ve left your room.

Thankful for the Small Wins

Not every victory in education comes with fireworks. Sometimes they appear quietly:

  • A student finally understanding a concept that took multiple tries.
  • A child trusting you enough to share something real.
  • A parent expressing gratitude for your support.
  • A class settling in a little smoother than yesterday.

In teaching, small wins are often the biggest proof that you’re making a difference.

Thankful for Community

Teachers lift each other up. You share ideas, swap resources, and support one another in ways that make the hard days manageable and the good days even better.

Thankful for You

This season is a reminder that what you do each day matters. Your classroom matters. Your impact matters. As you step into Thanksgiving, may you find rest, warmth, and joy — and maybe even an extra slice of pie just for you.

Happy Thanksgiving, Teacher. You’ve earned every moment of this break.
